چکیده

The ILC positron beam generated from a thin Ti target has a wide energy spread and large transverse divergence. With the collection optics immediately downstream of the target and pre-acceleration to 125 MeV, the collected positron beam still has a long tail of positrons with low energies and large transverse divergence, which will be lost in the rest of the ILC positron source beamline. A collimation system is proposed and optimized for the case of a shielded target with quarter-wave transformation collection optics so that the power loss in the magnets and RF structures is effectively controlled within the acceptable level and in the damping ring (DR) within 640 W, assuming 3×10 of the captured positrons per bunch in the DR. In this case, the capture efficiency and DR injection efficiency are 13% and 99.8%, respectively. The lower capture efficiency is expected to result in higher injection efficiency and therefore, a lower power loss in the DR. The capture efficiency for the cases of a shielded target with flux concentrator and 5T immersed target with flux concentrator is 20% and 30%, respectively, with the collimation system. * Work supported by DOE contract DE-AC02-76SF00515

MAD-MARS Beam-Line Builder (MMBLB) is a tool that helps MARS15 build models of accelerator lattices and beam lines using the MAD-generated optics descriptions. This mode is especially powerful in beam loss, collimation, backgrounds and shielding studies at the existing and new accelerators and beam transport lines. Many applications works using this tool have been performed such as Main Injecto...

Novel Designs for Undulator Based Positron Sources

At least three proposed future colliders (ILC, CLiC and LHeC) require a positron source with a yield greater than 10 e+s−1. An undulator-based positron source has the potential to provide the required yield. This design generates gamma rays by using a high energy electron beam traveling through a superconducting helical undulator. The gamma rays then pair produce in a titanium alloy target to p...

Beam Collimation during Lumbar Spine Radiography: A Retrospective Study

Introduction: Collimating the primary beam to the area of diagnostic interest (ADI) has been strongly recommended as an effective method to reduce patient’s radiation dose and to improve image quality during radiology practice. Lack or inadequate collimation results in excessive radiation dose to patients and deterioration image quality. Objective: To assess the quality of beam collimation dur...

Development of a Positron Production Target for the Ilc Positron Source

The future International Linear Collider (ILC) will require of order 10 positrons per second to fulfil its luminosity requirements. The current baseline design produces this unprecedented flux of positrons using an undulatorbased source. In this concept, a collimated beam of photons produced from the action of an undulator on the main electron beam of the ILC is incident on a conversion target....
